Two employees of a special school in the Lanaudière region are the subject of a criminal investigation and have been suspended for their actions towards students with intellectual disabilities.
According to our information, a teacher and a special education teacher of the school Space for Youth, located in Saint-Charles-Borromée, near Joliette, are under investigation by the Sûreté du Québec.
“Two staff members of the school board have been relieved of their duties this week “, has just mentioned Diane Fortin, deputy director.
“We have questions about interventions, physical and verbal that have been made “, she added.
More than one student has been the victim of two female employees, but because of the ongoing investigation, the school board did not want more specifics on the context of the complaints.
Investigation of the SQ
The school of Space-Youth has a regional vocation and welcomes nearly a hundred students aged 5 to 21 years.
They are suffering from intellectual deficiency, medium to severe, sometimes combined with a disorder on the autism spectrum.
Eloise Cossette, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec, confirms that an investigation has been opened to shed light on the allegations, but the police will not comment further on the situation as to not disrupt the proceedings.
Parents notified
The parents of the students of the school of the Commission scolaire Samaras will have been briefed in the morning on Wednesday of the departure of two key employees.
A complaint was filed with police the same day.
“The school board acted quickly when she had questions,” said Ms. Fortin.
The human resources of the organization, the Management of the protection of youth as well as the SQ are making a contribution.
No arrest has been made and no charges have been filed up to now.
