The bags are packed: the family of Dérek hand in the United States, Wednesday, for a experimental treatment that could save her life.
Suffering from acute myelogenous leukemia, Dérek has had two relapses. The first stem cell transplant did not work. One of its parents will now be the new donor to the hospital St. Jude Children’s Research in Memphis.
“It is this that keeps us strong, it is to see it in form of even. We just hope that all goes well there and that he remains a fighter now,” says Jeremy, the father of Dérek.
This is the only hope of healing for Dérek so that he could celebrate his third birthday. His parents did not want aggressive medical, but as their son has started to do better lately they have decided to continue the fight against the disease.
“We ask not for much, just a good life, four in health,” says Mary Lou, the mother of Dérek.
The family will be from four to six months in Memphis for treatment, and the remission of Dérek. The treatment, a portion of the costs of transport and accommodation will be borne by the research team.
