    Shared responsibility

In front of this considerable number of accidents, the director-general of the Federation of motorcyclists in Quebec, Jean-Pierre Fréchette, reminds us that the responsibility is shared between road users.

“Yes, these accidents involve motorcyclists, but a part of the responsibility also goes to the motorists who need to be more attentive to their environment,” he says.

It encourages all motorcyclists to wear light-colored clothes that cover their entire body, a way to reduce the severity of injury in case of accident.

According to the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ), there were 54 deaths on a motorcycle in 2016, while in 2015 there were as many as 50. According to the average of the last five years, there is an increase of 22 %.
