    The statement

The spokesman of the parti québecois concerning the family, Véronique Hivon, has positioned itself Thursday against the new tax credit for parents who place their child in a private daycare centre that is not subsidised (GNS), announced in the budget this week.

According to her, this measure promotes for-profit child care that are of less good quality. “In study after study, the quality of services at the CPE is always demonstrated.”

    The facts

Child care private non-subsidized, are they really less quality than the early childhood Centres ?

Two surveys of the Institut de la statistique du Québec give reason to Véronique Hivon. Conducted in 2014 and 2003, these studies, which assess, among others, the climate during the meal, the frequency of washing of hands and the organized activities, give the best results to the CPE.

For example, in 2014, the overall quality of the criteria analyzed in infants and children, has been found unsatisfactory in 38% of GNS, compared to only 3 % in the case of the CPE.

But for Khalid Daher, president of the Alliance québécoise des GNS, these studies are not valid. It is estimated that the budget of a child care centre is a critical factor that is not taken into account in the results of the studies and that the ” GNS are very poor.”
