The file of Jaggi Singh in the municipal court of Québec has taken an unexpected turn Thursday, when the prosecutor requested the postponement of the case for the ” review guidelines “folder.
The prosecutor told the judge Pierre Bordeleau “duty may be to take new directions in the folder” in the light of information revealed during the cross-examination of detective sergeant Stéphane Noël, cooked throughout the morning by Jaggi Singh. The latter is accused of obstructing and assumption of a person after being arrested during the events of 20 August in Quebec city. It was then passed to the hockey player Michel Goulet.
Questioned as to whether the charges against the demonstrator anarchist could fall possibly, the prosecutor has made sparing comments. “We’ll have to discuss that with the attorney-in-chief and re-assess the case. We will see it next week “, and he briefly introduced Me Guillemette, referring to the date of delivery scheduled for the 8th of march.
Disclosure of the evidence
The elements that have led to the postponement of the case were revealed in the morning on Thursday, when the sergeant-detective Christmas has once again been extensively questioned by Jaggi Singh, who defends himself alone.
The judge Bordeleau is shown surprised when the investigator has indicated that the communications platoon responsible for the area where Jaggi Singh was arrested, during protests of the August 20, 2017, were recorded, but had never been given in evidence. “These are elements that could be relevant to the defense,” said the magistrate.
“They have not been delivered because I did just not. I don’t know what to tell you, Mister the Judge, I never had “, has defended the prosecutor, visibly irritated.
“Since the beginning, I was told that all I needed did not exist or had already been delivered, but I realize today that this is not the case. I believe I have well established today [Thursday] that I was not a part of fishing and all I ask for is relevant “, has reacted Jaggi Singh.
Discontinuation of procedures ?
The protester has not wanted to come forward in an interview on the possibilities of a stay of proceedings or withdrawal of charges against him. It has, however, addressed this possibility at the hearing on Thursday morning, recalling the importance for him to get the whole of the evidence for his defence.
Jaggi Singh will return to court on march 8.
