THREE RIVERS | The ex-city clerk of the City of Trois-Rivières, Gilles Poulin, has called into question the ethics and the transparency of the outgoing mayor, Yves Lévesque, who is seeking a fifth consecutive term.
“This is a man who is authoritarian, which doesn’t have a great respect for democracy”, launched a Gilles Poulin, who has worked with the mayor Lévesque for 16 years.
Retired since last July, Gilles Poulin joins candidate Jean-Francois Aubin. During a meeting with the media on Tuesday, he criticized Mr. Lévesque his absences at meetings of the executive committee. In 2016, the mayor would not have attended any of the 30 meetings, and one on 19 in 2017.
“It is millions of dollars that are spent through the executive committee, and Mr. Lévesque’s not there”, protested the former clerk.
The principal said he did not want to engage in this kind of attacks. “I’ve always said that I shall sail not in a campaign around,” replied Yves Lévesque.
The candidate for mayor André Bertrand has also reacted to this output. “This is not the kind of policy that interests me”, he mentioned.
Jean-François Aubin took advantage of this support size to commit to revise the code of ethics for elected municipal officials if he is elected to the city council. “It’s got to be more transparent,” he said.
He proposes the hiring of an ombudsman. The ex-clerk could it be the one that is in its sights? “We’ll see. I have not cashed my support to Mr. Aubin,” said Mr Poulin.
Jean-François Aubin stated that this offensive policy has nothing to do with the recent polls that place Lévesque in the lead in voting intentions.
