The former conservative mp Andre Bachand will be the candidate of the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ) in the district of Richmond in the next provincial election.
André Bachand has been member of parliament for Richmond-Arthabaska from 1997 to 2003 under the banner of the progressive conservative Party. Unhappy with the merger of the party with the canadian Alliance, he completed his second term as a progressive conservative independent in 2004.
Stephen Harper named in 2009 as the canadian representative to UNESCO in Paris.
He has also been mayor of the municipality of Asbestos from 1986 to 1997.
The electoral district of Richmond is currently held by the liberal Karine Vallières, who announced last month that it does not represent at the next election.
