    The minister of public Safety, Martin Coiteux, will explain on Sunday after-noon with the terms of the Law on registration of firearms, which shall enter into force on Monday.

    As provided by the Act, the registration of non-restricted firearms shall be without charge to the owners and can be done online. Holders of weapons will have one year to do so.

    The etching will not be necessary, as had been demanded by some groups. This measure would have had the effect of altering some of the weapons of the collection where the value can rise to a few thousand dollars.

    Citizens who do not comply with the law face fines of up to $5000.

    It finally passed a year and a half between the formal establishment of the register and the adoption of the draft law 64 on the registration of firearms, in June 2016, by the national Assembly.

    The angry opposition

    A few hours of the entry into force of the opponents to the Law, which is part of the collective All against a registry québécois weapons to fire, accuse minister Martin Coiteux to have poorly chosen the day for the entry into force of the law.
