The English word “envy” (“envy”) is actually the combination and abbreviation of the Latin words “to see” (“videre”) and against (“in”), and the root of the word “invidious” (“offensive”). Considering this chain of fact, the etymological level, we can say that the modern English word “ill” (“sick”) is a linguistic reduction “evil” (“bad”), “evil eye” is often seen as a cause of ill-health, reports Rus.Media.

In many Mediterranean countries – Greece, for example, the people often regard compliments as a threat, as a compliment can conceal the expression of envy to the property or the success of another person. The death of babies and animals are sometimes attributed to someone who admired and made them, and so the mother begins to protect their children a variety of spells and ornaments of the cradle, to ward off the mortal danger of the evil eye.

Still the set of values associated with a black eye, goes beyond simple jealousy. Although we might laugh at the power attributed to the evil eye, and pretty fantastic means and measures taken to protect against it, is a superstition grew up with universal fears. The evil eye emerged from the forces attributed to threatening or envious look, whether it’s instant glance or gaze. This was seen as an attack or intrusion when the time of its unwitting owner with the help of a mysterious, invisible rays had the ability at will to penetrate into the body or the soul of man, thus affecting his condition or behaviour. The man with the evil eye possessed the victim through the eyes – the place where the soul was most vulnerable.

Who is the target of envious gaze?

Beautiful children, talented people, pregnant women and those who suddenly luck smiled, as suggested, are the main objectives of the evil envious eyes. In the coastal villages of Tunisia women try as much as possible to stay at home, not going outside to avoid capture. They dress their children in old, dirty clothes, wearing talismans and amulets to protect from the emergence of envy on the part of childless women. Meanwhile, the villagers, most of whom are weavers, deliberately limit the amount of work they do each day so that the supply exceeded the demand. Those who exceed the daily value, is vulnerable to envy, and consequently the evil eye. Thus, in this case an evil eye is a form of economic regulation. Similarly, in India, fears of becoming an object of envy sets some limitations that catches the eye well-being within the village.

Some people with a severe gaze was suspected of possessing the evil eye just because they sometimes attended some tragny cases that the usual superstitions of the Association was perceived as their fault. Lord Byron was a man. Another example is Napoleon III, who had a penetrating gaze from under heavy eyelids; a big supporter of this phenomenon, he wore an amulet on their wristwatch, to fight with his own evil eye. When the crowd welcomed Alfonso XIII, king of Spain, in Italy, they muttered “mal occhio” (evil eye), has been scrubbed clothes to avoid infection, and desperately rattled her keys to drive away the devil, which is known to be afraid of iron and noise.

As the person gets the evil eye?

Force as considered, most often acquired as a result of a Pact with the devil, although in some cases this deadly magic eyes could be a curse on the innocent, which is believed to bring bad luck everywhere watching, and hurting anyone who got in his field of vision. In Italy it was considered that successful, charismatic people had power. This was Pope Pius IX, elected in 1846, which, they thought, was an innocent owner of the evil eye, so to him for blessing spoke very rarely; almost all that he had blessed, went awry, and many considered this a blessing absolutely fatal. Once, during a procession from Rome he looked for a nanny that keeps baby near an open window. The next moment she released the boy from his hands, he fell to the pavement and died.

In Guatemala, the evil eye is considered unexpected: its owner does not necessarily know that has this power, and even if he does, he probably can’t manage it. Here are the usual victims are small children.

One of the most unusual belief in how a person can be exposed to the evil eye, found in Mexico, where there is a widespread point of view of the people, electricidad (electricity) passes mal ojo (evil eye) is an example of how a superstition can live up to the present day and adapt to modern technology, get a new explanation of the ancient phenomenon.

Some believed that everyone to some extent has an envious look and that he uses it to the outbreak of the senses so that one view-even quite ordinary man, if he painted envy or some such emotion, can have further detrimental impact.

Others insist that it is passed from generation to generation and it is impossible to intervene in the process just as it is impossible to prevent a disease that is inherited. Some believe that the devil rewards the bad eye as a gift favorite your favorites, which could concentrate all its evil in the eyes and focus it at will. Others insist that any opinion has the fiery essence, which, like the light that passes through the magnifier may be focused on one person or object and cause damage. And one of the most common explanations was that in the eyes of some people lives the evil spirit which can release their destructive power in the form of tiny invisible daggers. The expression “to throw someone violent views” is still used in our days.
