The MINISTRY warns against poisoning with salmonella

    Due to a number of cases of food poisoning, salmonellosis identified in Québec since the beginning of the year, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPAQ) has held to warn the population and provide prevention tips.

    According to MAPAQ, of these illnesses in the salmonella to be linked to the consumption of chicken products raw, or partially cooked, often breaded and sold frozen.

    To prevent this, the Ministry reminds that it is important that you read the cooking instructions given on the box or on the product label and comply with it.

    “Even if these products seem to be already cooked, they are not. In addition, cooking in the microwave is not recommended. It is important to remember that, in all cases, proper cooking of chicken products destroys the bacteria”, can we read in a press release.

    It is also important to wash hands after handling these products, thoroughly clean utensils and work surfaces.

    Symptoms

    Generally, a poisoning with salmonella causes nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and fever.

    They can occur 6 to 72 hours after consumption of chicken products and can last for several days.

    The MAPAQ is recommended to consult a doctor if these symptoms appear.
