    SAINT-ROCH-DES-AULNAIES | After having put her passion for photography aside to meet the needs of his family by working for Bell Canada, a woman newly retired is returned in the region and gives free rein to his love of photography.

    Brigitte Gagnon received his first plastic camera with a film of 125 mm, so she was quite young.

    It was the beginning of his love story with the photo. She studied visual Arts at the college and held a job at the shop of sculptures of his father at Saint-Roch-des-Aulnaies, near La Pocatière, until his entry to the university. She has exhibited his works in various cities in Quebec.

    Then, she founded her family with her husband Jean-Pierre Marchand, who also works in the visual arts in Three Rivers.     In the early 1990s, demand has declined and the couple has closed up shop. To provide financial stability to her family, she sought the security of employment and started working in marketing at Bell Canada, first at Trois-Rivières, and then quickly to Quebec. The son of the couple were then 14 years of age (William), 10 years (Mathieu) and 8 years (Justin).

    At the time, she would not have been able to live of photography, and as both members of the couple worked in the visual arts, she knew that one of them had to make a living for the family.

    “My children asked me once if I had put my career as a photographer aside for them, but no. It’s amazing and gratifying to give security to his family, ” said Brigitte Gagnon.

    If she indulged in a little photo here and there during her career, she dreamed of the day when, in retirement, she could concentrate on photography as before. “When I do the photo, it is as if I was doing yoga. The time stops, I can miss an appointment without me realizing it “, image-t-it.

    She has decided to retire on August 1, 2017 at the age of 64 years.

    • Not having the full retirement of Bell Canada, Brigitte Gagnon intends to retain a small job during the summer or part-time to meet financial needs of a retiree, but also to keep in touch with people.
