The situation in which the Bloc québécois, since seven of the ten members of the caucus have decided to slam the door of the party, is “deplorable” and “harmful”, according to the mp, pq Sylvain Gaudreault.
“What I see is that the group of seven mps who resigned has taken an important step,” says Mr. Gaudreault, without specifying if the head of Martine Ouellet should resign.
Mr. Gaudreault was, however, obliged to keep his distances with the federal party, which saw an unprecedented crisis.
“What I would like to tell you about this, is that these are two different parties, the Bloc québécois and the Parti québécois,” he said, not once, but twice.
“We [the Parti québécois], we were doing our work, and the only thing I can tell you this, it is that I welcome the fact that all the members of the Bloc québécois, including the seven who have announced their resignation, are sovereignists”, he added, during the same press briefing.
Seven of the ten members of the Bloc québécois announced last week their resignation to the political formation led by Martine Ouellet, of which they contest the leadership. Ms. Ouellet is not a member of Ottawa, but rather in Quebec city, where she represents the county of Vachon as independent. She had been elected under the banner of the PQ.
