The friends of the man who immolated himself by fire after meeting with a second refusal in medical aid in dying hope that the tribute organised in his honour will send a strong message to the government.
“The government needs to understand that he must take care of people like Remi. He suffered much, and if he decided to end it as well, it is that he has not had the medical support adequate, ” says Michel Malorni, the best friend of Remi Ouellette, who organized the tribute on Sunday.
Hundreds of people gathered in a festive atmosphere at John Scotti Classic Car in Montreal to honour the memory of the man, 59-year-old, a car lover. Many came with their modified vehicle.
“He would have wanted it happens this way, says Malorni. He would not have wanted it to be a sad moment. “
It is at the edge of his creation’s favourite, a Polaris Slingshot, as Rémi Ouellette has decided to end his days there a little over a week. We had to refuse him a second time for medical help to die, according to his best friend. He was suffering from a generalized cancer.
He had apparently not met all of the eligibility criteria, but it has been impossible to confirm this information, since his medical records are still confidential.
