VANCOUVER, bc | The residents of thousands of homes in the Fraser valley, British Columbia, may need to celebrate the arrival of 2018 in the dark – or, rather, the candle – so that BC Hydro can barely complete all the reconnection following the bad weather of the last few days, marked by precipitation of ice and snow.

Update #FraserValley: crews out in force today making repairs. We’re seeing extensive damage & have separate assessment teams evaluating repairs required to assist w restoration. One area in #MissionBC has 40 spans of wire down, 20 broken cross arms & broken poles needing repair. pic.twitter.com/MgM81I3JEh

No less than 50 teams from BC Hydro were busy Sunday, the last day of the year, giving back electricity to all British Columbians affected. They have been more than 100 000 homes without power at the height of the storm. In the middle of the afternoon, there were still 9000 homes without power, according to Global News.

As if the lack of current was not enough, the breakage of a water pipe in the city of Mission has forced the evacuation of several residents.

During the storm, the Fraser valley has received 40 to 50 millimetres of ice. In addition, in some areas, between 50 and 66 centimetres of snow fell.

Of power transmission lines were damaged, which complicates the situation and delaying the return to the normal lanes of highway that even had to be closed.
