OTTAWA | Despite the withdrawal of the United States, a dozen countries, including Canada and Japan, continues to work on a new version of the trans-pacific Partnership (TPP), which could be presented in November.

“The entry into force of the TPP is the most important priority for us,” explained the former ambassador of Japan to Canada, Sadaaki Numata, the Toronto Star.

According to the ambassador, the negotiators of the two countries, as well as New Zealand, Australia, Mexico, Brunei, Chile, Malaysia, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam are working on a new version of this free trade agreement. The text could be ready for the economic Cooperation summit for Asia-Pacific, which must involve the prime minister Justin Trudeau in November.

The trade agreement between 11 countries could help to boost trade between Japan and Canada, which has stagnated for years.

In 2013, trade between the two countries have reached 24.4 billion $, of which $ 13.7 billion $ in imports. It is the fifth most important business partner of Canada and the second largest in Asia, after China, according to data from the canadian government.

Concluded in the fall of 2015, the trans-pacific Partnership is ultimately never entered into force. The United States had decided to withdraw with the arrival of the american president Donald Trump at the White House, last winter.
