Justin Trudeau became an honorary member of the Royal 22e Regiment during a ceremony at the Citadelle of Québec, on Wednesday.

“We are very pleased and honored to award this title to the prime minister of Canada, who has repeatedly demonstrated his admiration for the accomplishments of our regiment. The legendary feats and the feats of arms extraordinary of the Royal 22nd Regiment, a testament to the pride and courage of the French Canadians”, said in a press release, lieutenant-general (ret’d) Richard J. Evraire, honorary colonel of the regiment is well known.

The 22nd Battalion became the Royal 22e Regiment, was during the First world War the only francophone unit in canada to combat. He was awarded 18 battle honours for its feats of arms.

Mr. Trudeau had the right to be a salvo of 19 canon shots during the ceremony. In the afternoon, Mr. Trudeau was the Patro Laval, in the Saint-Sauveur district in Quebec city. The prime minister met with several groups of children – he calls them “the next generation of canadian leaders” who participate in the day camp of the body.

He took the opportunity to boast of his allowance, canada child (ACE). “A year ago this week that the first benefits of the allocation of canadian children have started to be paid”, he said, recalling that they are non-taxable. It is estimated that around 300 000 children are out of poverty this year thanks to the ACE.

Outside, however, a few activists had gathered to ask Mr. Trudeau to invest more in social housing.

This is the third time since the beginning of the year that the prime minister Justin Trudeau is now in Quebec city. It came on 3 February, during the ceremony of commemoration of the victims of the bombing of the mosque of Quebec. He has also participated in the celebrations of the fête nationale du Québec on June 23.
