Two Irish heterosexuals are married in a civil ceremony in Dublin to avoid paying taxes of € 50,000 on a house that one wants to leave another legacy.
Matt Murphy, 83 years old, wished to bequeath his house to his caregiver and longtime friend Michael O’sullivan, who is 58 years old. When they discovered the extent of the amount of tax payable for the transfer of property, provided for in the will of Mr. Murphy, the two heterosexual men have decided to marry in order to facilitate the succession, reported Saturday the newspaper the Guardian.
The marriage of persons of the same sex has been legalized in Ireland in a referendum held in may 2015.
“I know Matty for the past 30 years. We became very good friends after my second separation,” said Mr O’sullivan.

The two men have experienced difficult times over the years. To catch a debilitating disease, Mr. Murphy was offered to Mr. O’sullivan, which had its own problems of housing, to move in with him.
Mr. Murphy however had not the means to pay Mr. O’sullivan that he takes care of himself. “Matt I was finally told that the only way he could pay me would be of me to leave the house, so that I have a place to live after his departure.”
It is a friend who suggested to get married when they found out the exorbitant fees they should pay to make the project a reality. The suggestion was actually a joke, but the two men found instead that it was a good idea.
The couple finally married in a civil ceremony, Friday, at a reception hall housed in a former hospital in Dublin. Mr. O’sullivan was already married to a woman before. It is a first marriage for Mr. Murphy.
During the ceremony, Mr. O’sullivan has praised the great generosity of her new “husband”, while Mr Murphy has interpreted a song from Willie Nelson Let the World Go By, which was about the friendship.
“I love Matt and he loves me, as friends,” said Mr O’sullivan after the wedding.
