    Look at this article

Two mothers of Pabos, Gaspésie, do not come back that their teens have received a fine of $ 48 in the middle of the night last week because they were travelling a bicycle on a sidewalk of the small town.

“I was surprised, especially here in the Gaspé, lance Mylène Cyr, the mother of one of the two boys arrested in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday last. Here, cycle tracks, there is not, so we, we like to know our children on the pavement on the shoulder of the road. It happens often.”

This last wishes to contest the ticket, while the mother of another young man, Nancy Breton, has already filed a complaint to the police ethics commission for abuse of power.

The two mothers felt that the police officer involved has tried to cause the two young people during the long speech by accusing them “without any evidence” of being at the origin “of flight and mischief” that occurred in Chandler recently.

    A “U-turn” for the challenge

According to the story of Mrs. Cyr, the two teenagers of 16 and 17 years had passed the end of the evening to play basketball behind the arena of Chandler, a few kilometres west of their homes.

It is on the way back, a little past midnight, a police officer was pinned on the boulevard Pabos.

“When he saw them, the police officer has made a big U-turn in the road to go wait for them in a court and stop it,” says Ms. Cyr.

The mother of another boy adds that the two friends were rolling on the sidewalk in an area of the site.

“There were no pedestrians and it was under construction, said Nancy Breton. The path was to the earth with full of cones across the path.”

“You want me to not show it how to work”

The two youngsters have filmed a part of the intervention. In the video, you can hear one of the boys to denounce the situation. “We truly stop because we have a walk in bicycle, it is serious? On the side of the road there, that it’s been 15 years that I’m doing?”

At a certain point, the police officer replies : “I am starting my 18th year of police, you don’t not show it how to work.”

It is by virtue of section 492.1 of the Code of road safety that the two riders have received a finding of violation worth a fine of $48.

This article states that the driver of a motorcycle, a moped or a bicycle cannot ride on a sidewalk except in case of necessity, or at least that the signaling is not permitted”.

At the police station of the Sûreté du Québec de Pabos, sergeant William Parizeau argues that it was an intervention “everyday and normal”.

“The police officer has issued findings of violation of the Code of road safety for bikes on the sidewalk”, he said, not being able to specify if this type of findings is given regularly.
