The president of the board of directors of the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), Lise Bissonnette, announced Tuesday that she is leaving her position.
In an open letter published in the newspaper “The Duty”, Ms. Bissonnette has indicated that they have taken this decision in order to “regain his freedom of speech.”
“Not that it has been forced. […] Instead, I practiced a bit of self-censorship induced by the official nature of my job and the obligations of diplomatic that it requires”, she explained.
Ms. Bissonnette has particularly benefited from his podium to denounce the disparity of treatment experienced by the universities in Québec, in particular as regards the state funding and the salary of the executive.

“The State is actively holding the realm of the absurd imposed on the only universities of the Université du Québec”, she said.
Implicit or explicit, the insidious idea of a class distinction to be maintained between the universities established by the State and the universities, the so-called “charter” which had the virtue of being born before the UQ by private acts if anchor like never instead of wither away”, she added.
In spite of the injustices alleged that Quebec universities are facing, Ms. Bissonnette said he “enchanted” by the “intellectual strength” of the UQAM.
“I weigh my words. I’m amazed by the UQAM today, which I don’t have to do state of vital statistics in teaching, in research, in creation, in the solidarity contribution to the needs and reflections of his environment,” she said.
Lise Bissonnette was at the head of the C. A. from the UQAM since January 2013.
