MONTREAL | dozens of tenants of a building comprising 35 dwellings had to be evacuated Tuesday evening after a fire of suspect origin in the borough of Ville-Marie, Montreal.

The flames, who have taken birth around 20: 30 in a residential complex of the rue Alexandre-DeSève, was quickly controlled by firefighters. These, however, had much to do to evacuate the residents of the 34 occupied units in the complex, explained Martin Farmer, chief of operations of the Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal.

Fortunately, nobody was injured during the disaster.

The fire originated in a dwelling on the third floor, before spreading to the fourth, and then to the roof. Firefighters, however, were to be required to transfer the investigation into the cause of the fire at the police in the evening, since the fire originated in the dwelling of a resident who was expelled just two days earlier.

Approximately 75 % of the tenants could expect to return to their house during the night. However, families will be taken care of, because of the damage caused by the flames and by the smoke.

About 70 firefighters were called to intervene to control the flames.
