The automotive world is in perpetual change. And since a few years, the cars are changing especially fast.
To the point where several features that were part of all the cars there not so long ago are now on the verge of extinction.
Examples? Here are ten!
A traditional key
With the advent of the start buttons for the engines, the good old-fashioned key design that was used for ages not will soon be a distant memory. The majority of models now offer a start button, and the trend will only accelerate over the next few years.
A hand brake lever
Finished, good old sessions to “break-arm” in the corner of a parking lot covered in snow. Several vehicles have already swapped the lever for a button that allows you to apply and to remove electronically the emergency brake.
A clutch pedal
Manual transmissions are on the verge of extinction in North America, and the third pedal could well become a thing of the past before long. Hope all the same that a few manual-transmission models will remain available to satisfy the purists.
A spare tire
For the sake of weight reduction, the spare tires are increasingly being abandoned by the automotive manufacturers for the benefit of repair kit, or sometimes even nothing at all…
A crank handle for the windows
They are very rare, the new cars still sold with cranks to lower and lift the windows. The power windows have become standard in the industry.
An antenna
As the cranks, the old antennas that protrude from the suitcase or the roof of the cars are from another era. Now, the vehicle can receive the radio waves through a device installed on the windshield, or by a small, box-wing shape of a shark, placed on the roof.
A USB connection
Used by nearly all the world today, the USB ports have made their way into the cars. Except that in a few years, this type of outlet will leave, inevitably, its place to another more efficient and less cumbersome. Already, the sockets of the USB type-C are beginning to make their appearance almost everywhere.
The CD player
After the slow agony of the cassettes, and compact discs are now also on the verge of extinction. Some manufacturers have already removed the CD drive from the list of equipment of their vehicles, and it is only a matter of time before the other following in greece’s footsteps.
Wheel covers
These days, even the car entry often offer alloy wheels. The use of the old “caps of wheels” to hide the steel wheels are ugly, therefore, is doomed to extinction. Nobody will complain…
Gasoline engines
It might take a little more time, but the engines gasoline are obviously destined to disappear in the coming decades. Environmental standards are always more stringent and the development of alternative technologies will ultimately be because of the drives traditional. One day…
