The protesters in montreal will no longer have to communicate their itinerary to the police, as provided for in a municipal by-law, ruled the Court of appeal in a decision released today.

Julien Villeneuve, better known under the name Anarchopanda, had appealed from this part of the by-law P-6 in August 2016.

In June of the same year, justice Chantal Masse of the Quebec superior Court had invalidated article 3.2 of the regulation on the prohibition to have the face covered, without reasonable cause, but the judgment was not fully satisfied with Mr. Villeneuve.

In a letter published at the time, professor at the Collège de Maisonneuve had stated that “this judgment represents a victory, although this victory is partial”.
