DUNCAN, C.-B. | A couple of British Columbia will have to face justice for abusing his dog to the point where the latter died, two days after he was rescued, authorities said Wednesday.
According to the SPCA of British Columbia, Anderson Joe and Melissa Tooshley have left their dog abandoned, tied with tiny leaves long, only a few centimetres.
The animal, discovered and seized on the 16th of February last, was extremely thin, and stood in a mixture of mud and feces.
Worse still, the collar of the dog was so deeply embedded in his neck that his head had swollen, up to at least double the size that it should have been. The collar had caused an infection and burned the skin of the animal, to the point of exposing the trachea and the jugular of the dog.
The poor beast was brought to emergency in a veterinary clinic, but the dog has finally succumbed to his injuries two days later.
“This is one of the cases of abuse in the most revolting and disturbing as we could see,” said the person in charge of law enforcement for the SPCA of British Columbia, Marcie Moriarty.
If he is convicted, the couple could be hit by a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment, a $ 10,000 fine and a lifetime ban from owning pets.
