The future Supra will probably not have manual transmission

Toyota has finally confirmed to the world that she was going to revive its iconic Supra.

Although we can rejoice in it, many questions remain unanswered for the time being. We don’t know when the Supra will be unveiled nor what type of mechanics will be used to propel her.

In an interview with the engineer Tetsuya Tada, responsible for the development of the Supra, the specialized site Autoblog has managed to root out some interesting information.

During the interview, Tada would have said that the manual transmission was not necessarily a “requirement” for fans of the Supra. By issuing such a comment, the engineer has suggested that the future Supra could be only marketed with an automatic gearbox.

Purists offended, that’s for sure. But in a world where prestige brands like Lamborghini and Ferrari have completely abandoned the manual transmission, it would not be surprising to see Toyota do the same thing.

After all, the sports cars equipped with automatic transmissions are faster and more energy-efficient than their equivalent manual transmission. Still, for the driving enthusiast, the fact of changing the report itself remains a pleasure irreplaceable.

In addition to the question of transmission, Tetsuya Tada has also said that”a Supra without a six-cylinder engine in line is not a Supra”.
