Things were not going well for General Motors when Chevrolet launched the Traverse in 2009.
In fact, things were not going well for the automotive industry in general. Especially in the United States. After the economic crisis that shook the world in 2008, the “big three”, GM, Ford, and Chrysler, have had to get down on one knee in front of the government to ensure their survival in the shots of grant.
Barely 10 years later, the traces of this dark time seem to be already quite far. Manufacturers sell cars (and especially SUVS) like hot cakes and we is amazed by the arrival of models to make them more powerful and energy efficient.
At Chevrolet, the new generation of the Crosses represents perfectly this change, of course.
Of vehicle rather dreary to the quality of manufacture questionable, the Crosses became a SEEN of quality is able to compete with big names in its class.

An inspiring design, or almost
It is not easy to build a model that stands out in the category of SUVS with three rows. This is the kind of vehicle, ultra-rational, that one buys not with guts, but with the head.
Still, Chevrolet has done the job really be interesting with the Crosses. It is now taking a look more sturdy, which gives him the air of a true truck. A bit like if they had wanted to turn it into a “small” Suburban.
This is even more true with the edition of Redline, which adds 20-inch wheels black. Sills, grille and even the logos Chevrolet are also painted black for the occasion. The name is really a misnomer, when you think about it!
Inside, Chevrolet has really upped the ante. A roomy interior very plain, dotted with good plastics market, the Traverse now offers an atmosphere more luxurious which speaks volumes about the progress made at GM during the last decade.

On the driver’s seat, one feels quickly at ease. Yes, the Traverse is a nasty big carriage. The kind of SUV with which we try to avoid the city centre, and parking spaces are too narrow. Fortunately, good visibility and steering is surprisingly communicative make the flight experience less painful than you might think.
In the center of the dashboard, a touch screen 8-inch available as an option provides access to the latest version of the system infoivertissement MyLink, compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
At the push of a small button, the screen may even get up and gives access to a storage space secret. It is taken almost for James Bond!

A James Bond who has had children, put. Because with a capacity of eight passengers and more than 2700 litres of cargo space when the seats are folded down, the Traverse is anything but an Aston Martin.

A turbo with it?
Under the hood is the same V6 engine of 3.6 litres that we already knew, which continues to animate the Crosses. Its 310 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque are more than sufficient to do the job well.
To improve the fuel consumption, it has replaced the old six-speed transmission with a new box nine reports. 13.7 L/100 km city and 9.4 L/100 km on the highway, the V6 is still rather greedy. It improves a bit if you give up on the four-wheel drive, but with a truck like that, who really wants to two wheel drive?
To overcome this Chevrolet now offers a gearless four-cylinder turbocharged 2.0-litre. The consumption is markedly improved, but the power goes to 255 horses. And, even worse, this engine is not available with the train full…
At a starting price of 37 $ 145 per, the Chevrolet Traverse represents an interesting choice in its category. Attention to the options, however, because it can get quickly. Our trial version to more than 53 000 $ is a great example.
Through 2018 was not the mouth of the Ford Explorer or the reliable reputation of the Toyota Highlander, but it stands out a cargo space, gigantic and road frankly surprising.
And most importantly, it proves that the lean years are over at Chevrolet.
