I love tanks since I was very small.
This is not the first time that I tell it here.
Watch Michael Schumacher and Jacques Villeneuve hook, I did it every Sunday morning by playing with Hot Wheels with my father.
Of course, everything I dreamed, it was to be 16 years of age. To drive. Finally! But for that, it took me a driving licence. But before that, I had to follow courses for a year.
I grew up in the city, so I haven’t had the chance to me to practise driving on a row of campaign.
My birthday being in October, I was able to start my theoretical courses as early as the end of the summer. More weeks passed, the more I angoissais.
I was sincerely afraid of not liking to drive.
I was not afraid of being a bad driver. I watched my parents at the wheel for several years and then I was so attentive in the classroom, it worried me not at all.
Imagine you have someone that tripe back on the cars, but who pisses every time he has to lead. It is hard when even.
It’s a bit like if you dream of being Sydney Crosby since forever, but the day that you enfiles skates for the first time, you hate it to die. It is sad, rare.
My day behind the wheel, it was with Denis, my teacher in driving. It is in this little Toyota Yaris hatchback that I’m sitting on the driver’s seat for the first time in my life.
My initiation was intense. I found myself on the grands boulevards, in full rush hour Friday afternoon. I felt so comfortable that Ruth Ellen Brosseau when she set foot in parliament for the first time. Let me tell you that I had not that the hands were pretty sweaty…
All that to say that the first hour has gone very quickly, even if precisely, I was not driving very… quickly.
I felt like I was released. I did not hate driving far, far away.
As the vehicles my parents were both equipped with a manual transmission, I didn’t have much of a choice to learn this way. I say that I had no choice, even if in the background, it was my business. It looked so much more fun to change the reports myself.
After two courses with the little Yaris automatic, Denis told me that I was ready to make the jump in an auto manual.
So I went from a Yaris almost new to a poor Tercel, which had already at least a dozen years. It was a blue that pulled on the purple. Even if the clutch was anything but farm, and that the speeds went like butter, it was probably the worst char to learn to drive. In the dashboard, there was no tachometer. Only a speedometer in the center.
Denis made me a drawing on a piece of cardboard to explain to me the principle of revolutions per minute – the famous RPM. If at least Yves Corbeil had been there.
Fortunately, I had watched my parents before and I was familiar with the concept.
Finally, I liked that so much, to drive, that I bought myself my first car, even before having my license. And I still have the car, and my licence also.
