GATINEAU | The Service de police de Gatineau (SPVG) and the canadian Council of the marine safety (CNSC) have indicated that the Operation zero Alcohol aimed at reducing the number of fatal accidents related to boating in Canada will be in force for a fifth year to the end of next week in this region of the Outaouais.
They argue that 40 % of these accidents on the water are caused by the consumption of alcohol.
“Summer is in full swing, and this weekend fits perfectly with our boating season to remind boaters canadians what are the dangers of alcohol consumption, one can read in a press release. Let us recall, among other things, that the combined action of the sun, wind, waves and boat movements on the water amplifies the effects of alcohol.”
According to canadian law, the conduct of watercraft with ability impaired by the consumption of alcohol may lead to an arrest, even if the alcohol does not exceed 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.
