GRANBY – The second Wednesday of the construction holiday is known to be the busiest day at the Granby zoo. A situation that causes a lot of headaches for motorists, who wait several hours to reach the entrance of the park.
“We came here on Sunday with five of our children, but we had to turn back road so there was traffic. Today, it is the same,” said a woman, stuck in the traffic for over an hour, when encountered by TVA News.
The traffic is so huge that it stretches for several kilometers on route 139. The managers of the Granby zoo is not their first time in trouble with the government: they hope that the provincial road could be expanded.
“Once on site, the holiday makers can move easily, and, even if there are 19,000 people on the site. The problem is to reach the site,” said Paul Gosselin, director general of the Granby zoo. The latter ensures that the company will put pressure on the government so that solutions can be considered.
In the meantime, the Granby zoo recommends people to use the parking alternative and, from there, take a shuttle bus. “We parked in the parking lot on le Bourget a little further away, and we used the bus. It was very good,” testified a holiday-maker.
Other users have chosen instead to borrow street alternatives to access the site. “It is a phenomenon that can be seen from this year: people enter the location in their cell and travel through the roads adjacent to the main roads,” said mr. Gosselin.
The craze for the Granby zoo is not ready to run out of steam. A good news is waiting at the bend managers at the end of the summer: it would appear that this season will be a exception in terms of ridership.
