Switzerland’s Roger Federer has earned his pass to the final of the men’s singles of the Rogers Cup thanks to a victory of 6-3, 7-6 (5) against Dutchman Robin Haase on Saturday afternoon on the centre court of the Uniprix Stadium.

The match was played under a beautiful blue sky, contrary to the weather forecast of the pessimists who had been announced over the past few days. It is concluded after 1 h 14 action when Haase sent a forehand far beyond the bottom line.

Federer will be at his second participation in a final of the Rogers Cup in Montreal. In 2007, he was inclined in three sleeves 6-7 (2), 6-2, 6-7 (2) facing the Serbian Novak Djokovic, in 2 hours and 13 minutes.

The duel has offered very little of dramatic moments, if not this kind of cry from the heart that has launched Haase in the third game of the second set when a spectator shouted out ” Come on Roger ! “.

“My name is Robin ! “, promptly retorted the Dutchman while he was preparing to make its service, causing the laughter and applause of the public. We have even seen Federer a smile.

It must be said that Haase had need of all the support from the crowd as he could get, because Federer had been dominant in the service until then.

Throughout the first round, Federer has conceded only six points, including four in the same game, the third, that he has lost due to an error caused.

But around this accident, the Swiss 36-year-old has even managed to break the service of his rival on two occasions, and when he regained the advantage with a 3-1, it was never threatened the rest of the set.

He has put an end to this first round in 28 minutes with an ace.

Federer has continued in the same vein in the second set, giving a single point in its first six games to the service. It is even allowed three consecutive aces in the fourth game.

Haase has been a lot more tough to his service in the second set, during which he scored eight of his nine aces, including two on to complete the 11th game in his favor.

In the tiebreaker, Federer has built advances to 3-0 and 4-1 before to resist the attempted comeback of his rival.

Half-expected final

In the evening, at 20 h, the Uniprix Stadium will vibrate with the rhythm of a semi-final that promises between Canadian Denis Shapovalov, and German Alexander Zverev, two of the most beautiful hopes of the tennis male.
