The favorite Karolína Plíšková has reached the quarter-finals of the Rogers Cup on Thursday, following the abandonment of Japan’s Naomi Osaka. After being qualified, Osaka said package because of an abdominal injury, after being broken in the first game of the final set as she pulled from the back 6-2, 6-7 (4), 1-0.
It is not clear at what point the Japanese ranked 50th in the world was injured, since it seemed to be in great shape in the tie-breaker. After her match, she received treatment and was not immediately met with the journalists.
A native of the Czech Republic Plíšková has become the no. 1 global last month. She will face in the quarter-the Danish Caroline Wozniacki. The sixth-seeded showed the exit to the Polish ranked 10th Agnieszka Radwanska 6-3, 6-1.
Bouchard will regain the smile
Eugenie Bouchard was smiling again, Thursday, so that she looked like a little more to the player who had stood out in 2014. All that was missing was a victory.
Bouchard, who is experiencing difficult times as simple, had teamed up with Karolína Plíšková at a match entertaining second-round double, after the game in simple. They have pushed the German Anna-Lena Grönefeld and Czech Kveta Peschke in the limit, bowing finally 7-5, 1-6, 11-9 in the super tiebreaker.
The result did not seem to bother the Canadian or his partner’s game. Bouchard has had a lot of fun and was very relaxed to the sides of Plíšková. “It may be something that I should try to make it simple, I put less pressure on the shoulders, noted Bouchard. It is more enjoyable to play as well. “
With little time to develop affinities on the ground, Bouchard and Plíšková relied on their instincts against the eighth-seeded of the array of double.
Plíšková has a service dreadful and excels in the bottom of the field. Bouchard, of Westmount, has been conspicuous by moments with beautiful volleys and several hits in the bottom of the field.
Bouchard and Plíšková seemed to be able to reach the quarter-finals, but Grönefeld and Peschke saved three match balls in the super-tiebreaker before to snatch the victory.
23-year-old, Bouchard has reached the fifth largest in the world in singles in 2014 but she currently holds the rank 70th. She lost against Croatian Donna Vekic in the first round earlier this week.
