Initiations at the University of Laval: new measures to prevent an overflow

    In a few days, more than 40,000 students to converge with Laval University for the start of the course. Gold, who says back to school also said initiations for new students.

    On social networks, these activities raise a lot of questions. On the site Facebook Spotted: Université Laval, most of the comments relate to the initiations.

    In the fall, more than 70 associations that organize integration activities, which can be spread over a week. In recent years, these activities have had a bad press, particularly because of cases of alcohol abuse and sexual violence.

    The Université Laval is no exception. The shocking images broadcast on the show “J. E.” show of the students of the University of Laval gestures of a sexual nature.

    On the side of the direction of the University of Laval, these excesses have been taken seriously. A training was held in April for the students who organize the integration activities at the start of 2017. During this training, the “integrators” have, among others, were aware of the issues of sexual violence and the issues surrounding the culture of rape.

    The integration activities are organised by the student associations. Each of them should give a plan of the activities proposed to the students. This plan must be approved by the directorate of students services, even for activities that take place outside of the campus.

    Most of the students encountered argue that the integration activities are good opportunities to discover the campus and, especially, to meet his new comrades.

    The subjects of safety and the prevention of sexual violence at these events will be discussed in more detail 31 August on the occasion of a press activity organized by the University Laval.
