The Ontario Denis Shapovalov won a first career match in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament.
New York — The new darling of the tennis canadian Denis Shapovalov won a first career match in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament, Monday, when he defeated the Russian Daniil Medvedev 7-5, 6-1, 6-2.
18 years of age, Shapovalov, who had reached the semi-finals of the Rogers Cup, earlier in August, needed just 96 minutes to overcome his rival.
Ranked 69th in the world, Shapovalov has placed 73 percent of his first balls-of-service in game and won 72 percent of points played in this situation. He has been the victim of both a break in service, but he broke his rival five times.
Shapovalov has closed the books on his first match ball, completing his sixth ace of the match.
Medvedev occupies the 54th position in the world.
