We had a great visit at Rolls-Royce Quebec, on Monday evening. The all-new Phantom was a first appearance in the dealership.

The Phantom is not a car of luxury for the 1%. It is an icon, definitely. And this icon has been totally renewed to 2018, for the first time since its resurrection in 2003.

Its design remains exceedingly similar to that of the outgoing model. Only, the manufacturer to british origins (now in the family of BMW) pushed the score further with even more excentrisme.

Bigger, more luxurious, more powerful, more techno… the Phantom is a gigantic living room on wheels. A lounge that can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds and reach a speed of 250 km/h.

Under its immense hood, the new Phantom hides a V12 biturbo engine of 6.75 liters, developing 563 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. A ZF transmission with eight reports, is in charge of managing all that power.

Inside, everything is implemented to inspire the luxury, the allure. We use only the best materials, and everything is assembled by hand at Goodwood, England. It is also continuing the tradition with the famous “doors of suicide and the huge front grille that is the signature of all Rolls-Royce products. Of course, the legendary “Spirit of Ecstacy” continues to trôner to the front of the vehicle.

    Spirit of Ecstacy

For those who want even more space, a version with longer wheelbase is also proposed.

According to the head of communications at Rolls-Royce, the new Phantom is constructed from a new flexible platform that is ready to receive a configuration with four-wheel drive, or even an electric motor. “Nothing has been decided, but it is a possibility”, we can explain.

    Much more than a car

The Phantom, it is much more than just a model like any other at Rolls-Royce. It is the DNA of the brand, simply. In the same way as the 911 at Porsche or the Wrangler at Jeep. More expensive, however!

First launched in 1925, the Phantom has quickly been regarded as one of the best cars in the world. Even at this time, the grille was massive, and the endless cover, which are still the signature of the model today, were already discernible.

The generations are followed in spite of a break during the 40s, until the model goes out in 1991. After the takeover by BMW, the Phantom is, however, resurrected in 2003, returning to the icon of prestige it once was.

In Canada, the new Phantom is available from 513 000$. It is to be paid, an icon!
