Environment Canada confirms that a tornado hit Mont-Laurier, in Laurentides, Sunday.
Aerial images of the scene captured Monday morning allowed also to see the major damage. Six homes were damaged, along the chemin du Lac-Nadeau.
“There is talk of roofs blown off, shed collapsed, carports and other damage to surrounding property caused by the projection of debris,” explained Mario Hamel, chief of the fire Department of the City of Mont-Laurier, LCN.
Fortunately, nobody was injured.
“When you see the shingles torn off of a house or the roof blow off, you are already winds of 110-120 kilometers per hour. When you see some parts of the house that appear to be twisted, it is because you have a wind vortex,” explained the meteorologist Gilles’brien, in an interview with LCN, which listed the characteristics of tornadoes.
Mr Brien recalls, moreover, that the municipality of Mont-Laurier is located in an area privileged for the tornadoes, since it is a transition zone between the hot air masses and cold, which leads to a lot of movement.
