QUEBEC | The leader of the Coalition avenir Québec, François Legault, takes the commitment to retain the liberal and pq members in high public office if he is elected to head the government in 2018.
In a video obtained by TVA Nouvelles, Mr. Legault says he wants to put an end to partisan appointments.
“I want to independently assess all the sub-ministers, and the heads of Crown corporations,” promised the chief caquiste. There are about 500 to 600 positions that are covered by this promise.
“Those who do not have the skill and are just there because they are small liberal friends, I’m going to replace them with more competent at Quebec and not by pq members or liberals,” he added.
Fifty appointments since 2014
Since the last general election, the CAQ says that the liberals of Philippe Couillard have made more than fifty patronage appointments.
“You have the case of John MacKay, who, himself, has said that he was qualified to be CEO of the SEPAQ only because he had already been camping,” said the mp caquiste in Borduas Simon Jolin-Barrette.
“It’s going to make me happy to appoint one or a liberal well known, one or a pq’s well-known to the key positions as long as they are competent,” repeated Mr. Legault
Delight Louis-Hébert
The caquistes are more than proud to have wrested the fortress of Louis-Hébert, held by the liberals since 2003.
“I had a positive opinion on the CAQ. In any case, I wanted to see what it would give. I felt that there was perhaps the potential and the future has confirmed my foresight,” said Geneviève Guilbault, the new member of parliament for Louis-Hébert.
To form a majority government, the second opposition in the national Assembly must reach the magic number of 63 districts.
“It will take 63 and more to have a majority government, but it does mean that it is credible to have a government of the CAQ as soon as 2018”, said chief caquiste.
François Legault hopes to surf on this wave, who has won three of the last fifteen partial since 2014.
