MONTREAL – The canadian Class anti-islamophobia (CCAI) does not have time to respond to the draft of act 62 (the law on the religious neutrality) adopted in the morning Wednesday in the national Assembly in the condemning and judging it to be unconstitutional.
The AICC calls on the government Couillard to respect the fundamental rights and freedoms of Quebec origin muslim women wearing the niqab.
“This is not a law on the religious neutrality of the State, but rather an act of islamophobic, and sexist as it targets only the muslim women wearing the niqab from religious conviction,” said Adil Charkaoui, coordinator of the CCIC.
The CCIC estimates that the government Couillard has failed in his main election promise of restoring social peace lost during the debates surrounding the charter of islam from the previous pq government. Instead of cracking down on the rise of the intolerance of right-wing movements, the systemic discrimination and islamophobia in the province, the liberal Government has instead contributed further to the exclusion and stigmatization of the muslim minority.
For the CCAI, the liberal government does not keep its election promise to restore the social peace.
“Instead, the government has contributed further to the exclusion to the stigmatisation of the muslim minority,” added the coordinator of the CCIC. The government Couillard, as well as the three opposition parties have remained deaf to the calls redundant of thousands of Québécois(es) muslims suffering from systemic discrimination in employment, but met for months to legislate against a fifty muslim women.”
