Legalization of cannabis: – Module now confident that Quebec will be ready for July 2018

EDMONTON, Alberta – After having repeatedly criticized the federal go too fast with the legalization of cannabis, the minister of Health of Quebec, Gaétan Barrette, said he was confident Friday that the provinces are ready for the 1 July 2018.

“We are all on the same page,” said Mr Module to the end of the meeting between the ministers of Health of the provinces and of Canada, on Friday, in Edmonton, Alberta.

“There are difficulties, but we will be ready for the 1 July”, he added.

Not later than mid-September, the minister Barrette was, however, expressed reservations about the timeline, criticizing the willingness of Ottawa.

“The date of 1 July should not be a surprise to the provinces. It was very clear in our election platform in 2015,” said the federal minister of Health, Ginette Petitpas-Taylor, at the end of the meeting.

“FPT governments [federal, provincial and territorial governments] will continue to play a crucial role in ensuring the health and safety of Canadians, particularly young Canadians, said this about Health Canada in the evening on Friday in a press release. The ministers underline the importance of educating the public in the beginning and continue to do so as the federal initiative to legalize, regulate and restrict access to cannabis moves forward.”

Although he has chosen to show his unity with the provinces and the federal government on the date, Gaétan Barrette has reiterated its doubts as to the ability to regulate effectively the derivatives of cannabis, such as edibles, as early as July 2018.
