The next NATO summit will be held in July, said Stoltenberg

The next NATO summit will be held July 11-12, reported the NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. The meeting will be held in the new Belgium headquarters in Brussels.

 

First, the statement about the dates and location of the summit 2018 did Charles Michel, Belgian Prime Minister. His words were confirmed by Jens Stoltenberg.

Stoltenberg noted that one of the agendas of the meeting will be the need to strengthen the transatlantic bond on which NATO rests – the relationship between North America and Europe. The Union will continue to adapt to the challenges of the XXI century.

According to Stoltenberg, the unit responded to increased threats of recent years, to strengthen collective defence. The military Alliance in the East is fully operational, and the forces in the black sea region strengthened. NATO Secretary General promised to intensify efforts in the fight against hackers and hybrid threats. Stoltenberg said that the Alliance is still helping Afghanistan, that he never again became a safe shelter for terrorists. NATO also provides support to the Global coalition fighting against ISIS, an organization banned in Russia and many other countries. NATO strengthens relations with Iraq and is moving towards closer cooperation with the EU.

Earlier, NATO Secretary General noted that the agenda for future discussion – the interaction of the Alliance with Russia. Last meeting of the bloc held in 2017 July 2016 summits, which were held once in 2 years, become an annual event.
