Four senior officers from the Montreal police have left their positions since the arrival of the acting chief Martin Prud’homme because their opportunities for advancement were forecast to be weak, according to our sources.
According to our information, a finding is required in the higher spheres of the SPVM as what the next leader will not be from the internal. A number of executives who did not see opportunities for advancement were therefore precipitated their exit.
Jean-Ernest Célestin, Stéphane Bélanger, Johanne Paquin and Claude Bussières, have all taken the decision to no longer pursue their career within the SPVM.
Some find themselves in new occupations, while others are looking towards retirement. Three of the four senior officers are already parties.
VIA Rail and Mascouche
Before the Holidays, the deputy director, Jean-Ernest Célestin announced that he had accepted a position with the security of the company VIA Rail.
The latter, who is a native of Haiti, has always been very close to the former chief, Philippe Pitcher. It has even been considered for the management of the SPVM, but it was finally never applied.
The deputy director Stéphane Bélanger exchange for its share of police service and now worked in a management position in Mascouche, on the north shore of Montreal. It is described as a person liked by his employees.
Retreats
The chief inspector Johanne Paquin announced her retirement just a few days after the arrival of Martin Prud’homme. She also was faithful to Philip Pitcher.
For the assistant director Claude Bussières, his departure will be as soon as next spring.
Just prior to the publication of the damning report, Bouchard and the suspension with pay of Philip Pitcher, Mr. Bussières has refused an offer of the administration of Valerie Plant, which would have placed him at the head of the SPVM, by loyalty to a Pitcher.
We had made the same proposal to the deputy director Simonetta Barth, which had declined for the same reasons.
The next day, the former director of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) Martin Prud’homme has been appointed to the head of the SPVM by the minister of public Safety Martin Coiteux. In an interview recently with The Newspaper, the ex-investigator of the squad Wolverine has admitted that there will be “a lot of things to settle” during his short mandate of one year. He plans to regain his post in the SQ later.
