The Toronto transit Commission (TTC) is expected that Bombardier would be unable to deliver as scheduled the 204 cars of trams that are expected in the city by 2019.
To date, Bombardier has delivered only 59 vehicles in Toronto, which is much less than the 148 that should have been delivered by the end of 2017, if the original schedule had been adhered to. The plan has since been amended more than once, the constructor montrealer who has indicated that he would be 70, and 63 new vehicles by the end of 2017. Finally, only 57 trams had been delivered as of the date of the 1st of January.
In an interview with the “Toronto Star”, the new chief executive officer of the Commission, Rick Leary said that his body must be ready to deal with the lack of new vehicles. Already, buses and cars of trams older than 30 years that should have been withdrawn from circulation are to be found on the roads, awaiting the arrival of new cars.
“That’s 15, 18 years that I buy trains, trams and buses. I don’t want to say that they fail to deliver by the end of 2019, but let’s say that I called for a realistic timetable,” said Mr. Leary in newspaper toronto.
The leader is working on developing a “plan B” to ensure that it can continue to offer the same service as the long lines of streetcars even if all the vehicles are not received in time.
In an email sent to the “Star”, a spokesman for Bombardier said the company has always achieved to deliver the 204 cars of trams, as provided for in the contract of nearly $ 1 billion, by the end of 2019.
