According to the police Service of the urban agglomeration of Longueuil (SPAL), two firefighters and a police officer suffered minor injuries while fighting the fire. However, no resident of the premises would not have been injured during the fire.
Breakdown truck
The Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal (SIM) has sent in reinforcements-two firefighters and a chief in the operations after the breakdown of a truck used for refueling of cylinders by air.
“A truck like that, it is essential to be able to intervene. It is basic. They were sent to 19: 30 for help, ” says the chief to the operations of the SIM, John Trimiani.
According to him, it happens several times per year that a municipality is calling on the services of the SIM.
“We go according to the needs, it often happens “, says Mr Trimani.
Great cold
The Red Cross has sent a team to the scene to help the disaster victims
Dozens of firefighters were mobilized to tackle the blaze, so that the perceived temperature was -24 degrees Celsius in the middle of the evening.
“The cold greatly complicates the work of the sappers. The big problem is the water. It flows so that no pipes freeze. Also, all actions are slowed down. It also takes more firefighters, because they need to be addressed more often, ” says John Trimiani.
The cause of the fire remained unknown in the evening. It could be a fire cooking.
It was impossible to confer with the fire safety Service of the agglomeration of Longueuil Monday, busy to fight the blaze.
The building has suffered heavy damage and could possibly be considered a total loss.
According to the land registry of the City of Longueuil, this would be a building with a value of more than $1.7 million.
