The hand of Canadarm2, also called effector lock, which was replaced earlier this week at the international space Station, will eventually need to be removed, indicated on Friday night the canadian space Agency.
“While this new hand was undergoing routine tests, an anomaly was detected in one of two electronic systems that control its mechanisms, explained the Agency in a press release. These systems, of which one acts as the feeder, must both be functional so that the Canadarm2 is able to perform its tasks on the international space Station.”
The canadian space Agency has added that it and NASA “have agreed to replace the hand that had initially been replaced”. “This hand shows signs of normal wear, but both systems are functional.”
On Tuesday, two NASA astronauts completed a spacewalk to perform the repair. Their expedition had lasted seven hours and 24 minutes, and had been a qualified success on their return to the space Station.
The correction must take place Monday during an output of astronauts in space, according to what was reported by the american network CBS, Friday afternoon.
