THREE-RIVERS – At the terminus of Three Rivers, passengers of intercity buses said on Thursday that they would prefer to travel on board a train at high frequency (TGF) if the opportunity was given. The elected officials of the Mauricie region are also convinced of the viability of such a project.
“I’m measuring up to 6.9 feet. I have my trip spaces too small”, has launched a man much larger than average, who had just landed in the capital of the Mauricie region.
“The train more than the bus. It is more spacious,” added another passenger.
VIA Rail is convinced of the profitability of a train at high frequency. The forecast of 1.87 million passengers in 2030 for the corridor between Quebec and Montreal. The cost of the ticket would be around $ 40 for a go to Montreal, a price equivalent to the route Drummondville-Montreal are currently in effect.
The ride in the TGF between Trois-Rivières and Montreal would make it in 50 minutes, or about an hour less than the bus.
“For us, it is important and it is a project that we have at heart for a long time. This is a project that has a beautiful consultation and that will solve a problem on the North Shore than on the South Shore”, believes the mayor of Trois-Rivières, Yves Lévesque.
He has co-authored the letter sent to the prime minister Philippe Couillard and he also wants to put pressure on Ottawa.
“We want the federal government embarked on the project and it must be done quickly,” he continued.
VIA Rail speaks of a project of $5.2 billion.
