The FIQ wants a commitment from the opposition

The main trade union of nurses in Quebec will meet with the opposition parties on Wednesday in order to get a commitment on their part, on the ratios of nurses to patients.

The question of ratios is at the heart of the claims of the Fédération interprofessionnelle de la santé du Québec (FIQ) in the folder of the exhaustion of the nurses who made the headlines for the past two weeks.

The minister of Health, Gaétan Barrette, has shown openness on this issue after a meeting with the FIQ last week. But the union wants to ensure the continuity of the measure, beyond the next provincial election.

“We do not know the outcome of the next election, then we want that all political parties is in favour of ratios,” says a source to the FIQ.

Hires

The union considers that the imposition of quotas is likely to result in the hiring of personnel, but not necessarily nurses. It could be rather practical nurses or orderlies, it was argued.
