Quebecor has donated $ 15 million to the Fondation du Centre hospitalier de l’université de Montréal (CHUM), on Tuesday. It is the largest gift ever received by the Foundation of the university hospital since its inception in 1998.

“As a company, we have this responsibility to be in solidarity with our community. It was a commitment of my father, Pierre Péladeau, Quebecor has never forgotten,” explained the president and ceo of Quebecor, Pierre Karl Péladeau, in a press release.

In recognition, the auditorium of the new CHUM will have the name of Pierre Péladeau, “in honor of this visionary business man,” explained the Foundation. The opening of this amphitheatre, which will be used to promote health and to disseminate information, will take place in 2021.

“The support of the pioneers of the quebec society such as Quebecor helps to ensure the excellence and the reach of CHUM. Today, we celebrate the great collaboration between two poles, in their respective fields, who work together to provide the best health care to the population”, stressed the chairman of the cabinet of the capital campaign of the Foundation, Daniel Johnson.

“It is a contribution that is impressive on the part of the Quebecor on behalf of the health of the quebec population, which occurs at a turning point for the CHUM,” said the president-director general of the CHUM and CHU Sainte-Justine, Dr. Fabrice Brunet.

The fundraising campaign of the Fondation du CHUM’s goal is to raise $ 300 million, to acquire advanced equipment and to support research activities. To date, 75 % of the campaign goal has been reached.
