QUEBEC – Welcome 10 000 fewer immigrants per year, as proposed by the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ), would be “bad news” for employers in Quebec, supports the Conseil du patronat du Québec (CPQ).
“Our enormous demand for labor ensured that the immigration is not part of the problem, but the solution”, explained the director general of the CPQ, Yves-Thomas Dorval, in an interview with the QMI Agency.
The CAQ promises to decrease the levels of immigration to Quebec from 50 000 to 40 000 in order to better accompany the new arrivals, in particular to ensure a better francization. Even if the CPQ “includes the objectives of the CAQ”, it does not accommodate a higher number of immigrants prevents their successful integration into the labour market.
“Currently, the government target is 50 000. The CAQ would be less, so that all associations of employers require more than 50 000,” said Mr. Dorval.
In addition to welcoming more immigrants, the government should ensure that they match the needs of Quebec, said Mr. Dorval.
It is not, therefore, to welcome the more educated workers, but rather to ensure that they meet the needs, regardless of the level of studies.
The CAQ has preferred not to react to the comments of the CPQ.
Last December, the prime minister Philippe Couillard was estimated that Quebec should be filled 1 375 000 jobs between 2015 and 2024, which, according to him, because of the shortage of labor “the main challenge the economy of the province.
