Each year, Nestlé elects a “baby Gerber” to represent the image of his brand of food for children. For the first time, it is a baby to have down syndrome, which has unanimous support from the jury.

The brand announced the victory of the boy on his account Instagram on Wednesday, posting a photo of Lucas Warren, a small American native of Georgia.

One-year-old, he was selected among more than 140 000 participants in the contest.

In addition to winning the title of “Gerber Spokesbaby” and become the face of the brand for 12 months, Lucas and his family will receive the sum of US $ 50,000.

True to his desire to promote diversity, however, is not the disability of the child, which has prompted Gerber to make this choice. In a press release, the company explains that it is “his joy and his bright smile” that has seduced the jury.

“Each year, we choose the baby that best represents our brand, its values and its legacy. And this year, Lucas is perfectly,” said Bill Partyka, president of Gerber.
