A driver-partner with Uber has decided to integrate the cockpit of his car lights to create the animation and amuse its customers. However, the police Department of the City of Montreal application if the installation complies with the Code of road safety.
Watching the video, we can clearly see the play of light in the vehicle to a stop on the boulevard Saint-Laurent, at the gates of chinatown. The customers seem to be enjoying themselves. Asked by TVA News, the SPVM has had this reaction:
“We watched the video that you have sent us. Given the quality of the image, we are unable to confirm whether an offence has been committed. However, we may ask if the passengers have fastened their safety belts. In addition, article 442 of the highway safety Code prohibits driving a vehicle when an object is placed so as to interfere with the driving of the vehicle.”
The article in question stipulates that “no person may drive a road vehicle when a passenger, an animal or an object is placed so as to obstruct the driver’s view or hamper the operation of the vehicle”.
For his part, the spokesman for Uber, Jean-Christophe de Le Rue, said that “the partner drivers of Uber are self-employed and who strive to offer a service of quality that makes the reputation of Uber. Some offer free bottles of water, chocolate, candy or magazines to phone. The festive atmosphere that this partner-driver has chosen to offer is particularly appreciated by its customers as evidenced by its average rating among the highest in Montreal after several hundred races”.
