LONGUEUIL – A yard on route 116, in the area of Longueuil, in the Montérégie region, is completely abandoned since last June 29.

The stretch of four kilometers, which stretches from the Chambly road, until autoroute 30, is part of a significant transit route for the residents of the South Shore, including those of Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville and Saint-Basile-le-Grand.

The project, which was to be held from may to August, has been deserted since the end of last month.

Transport Quebec confirmed to TVA News that the workers have found that there was a problem with the nine catch basins that are part of the drainage system when they have begun to excavate the ground.

It is therefore necessary to wait the construction of sumps, made-to-measure before resuming the work originally planned.

They should resume this Monday, but will be accompanied by a delay in the schedule: the site should be completed at the end of October. Motorists can expect major closures, in particular to the fall semester, so that we often find the worst traffic jams of the year.

Up to 68,000 vehicles travel each day on this road.

For the time being, the traffic lanes have been narrowed and the speed limit set at 70 km/ h on this stretch of route 116, at the height of the Saint-Hubert airport.

Transport Quebec confirmed to TVA News that the project, initially estimated at $ 5 million, will certainly cost more. The ministry, however, did not want to put a figure on it.
