MAGOG – A major fire raged Thursday morning at the Auberge du mont Orford located in Magog in the eastern Townships.

The flames have completely destroyed the restaurant, As at home. The section of the hostel for its part, has been spared.

The fact that there is no body of water nearby has complicated the response of firefighters, who had to carry up on the site of the fire.

The owner of the restaurant, Marilyn Beauchemin, was in shock. “It’s very difficult… It’s been 12 years that we are there, we worked hard, we created this company with sweat and energy, and there, it is finished”, she lamented, on the waves of LCN.

The blow is all the harder as the high tourist season was in full swing and that the disaster will cause significant financial losses.

“Our big season was starting this week until mid-October, continued Ms. Beauchemin. It is exactly at this time that it should be there, that it must be present, and work hard. For the region, too, it is an impact, because it has not many rooms and accommodation…”

Depending on the direction of the inn, the flames would have taken birth in the kitchen in the middle of the night, around 3: 30.

The night guard then proceeded to the evacuation of the approximately sixty customers of the place, filled to its maximum capacity. The owner has indicated that they would do everything in their power to accommodate and transfer it to their facility in Sherbrooke.

They will also try to relocate a dozen of employees affected by the situation.
